The Transformation of the Interpretation of the Historical Meaning of a Figure on Example of the Socio-Historical Conflict about the Role of Marshal Konev in the Course of Czechoslovak History
Stolle, Lucas ; Marková, Alena (advisor) ; Štemberk, Jan (referee)
The aim of our thesis is to map the conflict related to the monument to Marshal Konev, which took place between 2015 and 2020. In 2018, the Prague 6 Municipality provided the monument with explanatory plaques because it was repeatedly damaged by unknown people. The plaques were meant as well to commemorate Konev's controversial post-war career. This act provoked a strong reaction from the Russian Embassy, which began to defend historical role of Marshal Konev. It led to a conflict between Czech and Russian politicians and also to a conflict within the Czech political scene. In our analysis we want to clarify the different interpretations of Marshal Konev's historical role provided by Czech and Russian politicians and Czech historians and journalists. We look at the reactions and arguments of politicians, historians and journalists regarding Konev's historical role and his monument. We also examine the differences between the arguments and their transformation during the conflict. In the end, we try to clarify the reasons for particular interpretations of Marshal Konev's historical role. We use the theoretical concepts of the symbolic centre and collective memory. Our sources are mainly Czech news articles on selected websites.

SVOBODNÁ, Šárka. Sovětská anexe a okupace Estonska. Praha, 2011. 59 s. Bakalářská práce (Bc.) Univerzita Karlova, Fakulta sociálních věd, Institut mezinárodních studií. Vedoucí bakalářské práce Doc. PhDr. Luboš Švec, CSc. Abstract The thesis The Soviet Annexation and Occupation of Estonia discusses different understanding and explanations of events, which are connected with Estonian loss of sovereignty in 1940 and after. The thesis aims to show, how differently the two once "fraternised" nations may regard their common history and how a burden of different apprehension of history still influences their relations today. The thesis does not intend only to describe the events, but merely to point out the differences of interpretations in works already written, concerning backgrounds of their origin. The first part focuses on analysis of Soviet, Estonian, and contemporary Russian authors. The next part is dedicated to collective memory and to specificities of Estonian and Soviet/Russian interpretation of the events. In the Estonian case, idealisation of national heroes is emphasised, in the Soviet/Russian case is examined the way of its development. At the end a particular example of conflict between two interpretations is presented: clashes between Estonians and Estonian Russians because of meaning of the...
German coping up with history (application on German-Czech relations)
Macálková, Eva ; Šauer, Jaroslav (advisor) ; Matějka, Zdeněk (referee)
This diploma thesis deals with reflecting of the World War II in consciousness of the contemporary German generations, which have no direct experience of the period in question. The aim is to answer the question of whether there still persists a feeling of "collective guilt" for the crimes perpetrated on the other nations, especially on the Czech nation. The thesis thus defines a concept of guilt, and follows the public discussion and interpretation of history in Germany at the present time, as well as in the post-war period. For this purpose, it observes the official German policy, activities of civil society and public by means of media, literature and cultural and educational activities. The thesis also analyses historical facts of the post-war period in Germany and development of German-Czechoslovak/Czech relations and their importance for the contemporary German interpretation of history.
